Rearcross N.S. ‘Trad Night’

As part of our Health Promoting Schools application, we are participating in the Active School Flag initiative. The Active School Flag is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. Active children concentrate and learn better, present with fewer discipline problems and achieve higher test results. We are currently engaged in a process of self-evaluation across three areas, Physical Education, Physical Activity and Partnerships. Keep checking our website for further updates.

Last week Rearcross National School celebrated Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme, ‘Catholic schools: Learning with Pope Francis to care for our common home’ was informed by Laudato Si’, the 2015 encyclical by Pope Francis on care for our common home. Every day pupils focused on ways which we can protect our common home by the things we do every day.

On Thursday, the school community paid tribute to the role our grandaparents play in handing on the faith to their grandchildren at a special mass. Afterwards, teas, coffees, cakes and buns were provided by the Parents’ Association. Click on our photo gallery to see more pictures.

Well done to Colm Kennedy, Brian Hammersley, Aaron Lenihan and Brian O’ Connell who finished first in the U11 category of the schools quiz in Newport last Saturday. A wonderful achievement, maith sibh buachaillí!
