Rearcross National School

Last week pupils from second – sixth class participated in a bike maintenance workshop as part of National Walk to School Week 2016. Seán Hartigan, Green-Schools Travel Officer, spoke to the students about the importance of maintaining their bicycle and showed them how to replace brakes and fix punctures. The pupils really enjoyed the session and learned lots about bicycle safety!

The pupils and their parents enjoyed walking to school in the sunshine this morning. Pupils from Shanbally began their walk at the Court Cairn. Those who lived closer to school joined in along the way!

Well done to Callum, Caoimhe, Lorna, Eileen, Patrick and Owen who made their First Holy Communion on Sunday. It was a beautiful ceremony added to by the lovely choir and music. Thank you to Ms. Daly and Ms. Corcoran for their all their helping in make the day a memorable one for all involved.

Two fire  fighters from Newport Fire station visited our school last week. The middle classes spent a very interesting and informative hour learning about fire safety in the home and the work of a fire fighter. Children were reminded to check their smoke alarms regulary and encouraged to develop a “Fire Plan” at home.
