Proclamation Day
This week the pupils of Rearcross National School celebrated Proclamation Day. Pupils from 4th – 6th classes began the ceremony with a beautiful song, Grace, which was written to commemorate Joseph Plunkett’s marriage to his fiancée, hours before he was executed. Afterwards Jimmy Nolan, local historian and storyteller officially raised the national flag. The pupils then sang / played Amhrán na bhFiann.
Then Cormac Sheehy and Eoin Sheldon read aloud the original proclamation. Following this Brian Nolan and Ellie Kennedy read Rearcross National School’s own Proclamation for a New Generation. We then moved proceedings indoors, 5th – 6th classes presented their project ‘Éirí Amach na Casca 1916’, rang a ceathair introduced us to the seven signatories and gave a great rendition of Ireland’s Call. Many thanks to all who attended and helped make this day special. Click on our photo gallery page to see more pictures.
