Rearcross National School

Congratulations to Ms. Carey, her Green-Schools committee and Billy Nolan our caretaker whose efforts in keeping the school and its grounds in a wonderful condition were acknowledged recently when the school was  awarded joint second place at the annual Tidy Schools’ Competition. The competition is organised by Tipperary County Council. The award was accepted by Sheila Carey, Green-Schools coordinator and two members of the Green-Schools committee, Gabrielle Steed and Rueben Mulligan. Maith sibh!

This week pupils are focusing on friendship. They identified the key to being a good friend.

Update: Well done to all children who participated in the numerous activities throughout the week. These included our thought board where children posted random acts of kindness they performed during the week. The older classes also completed a series of lessons on cyber bullying.

Pupils in Rearcross National School conducted a number of different investigations as part of our science week celebrations. Students built an apiary, recognised that a gas such as air occupies space and explored the use of magnets to lift and hold objects. We explored weight distribution, reactions of materials when mixed, colour blindness, and even prepared wild flower seeds to plant in the spring to help our bee population in the summer.

In November, our school participated in Team Hope’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal. A total of 55 boxes were collected. Buíochas ó chroí to the parents and children who sent in boxes for this special cause.

Parents wishing to enrol their children for the 2016 / 2017 school year should contact the school for an enrolment form. Completed forms are to be returned to the school no later than November 27^th 2015.
