Rearcross National School

As part of Ireland’s centenary programme to commemorate the 1916 Rising, two members of the Defence Forces visited Rearcross National School to present the school with a flag and a copy of the proclamation. The ceremony included questions on the proclamation and the flag. Eoin Sheldon, 6th Class, read an extract from the proclamation. Sergeant Barry Sheehan of the 12 Infantry Battalion then presented the flag to Eoin Dervan and a copy of the proclamation to Brian Hammersley.

Over the past week pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th class have been exploring the Easter Rising.  Pupils gained a valuable insights into their own identity and inherited traditions!
