MATHletes Challenge 2015

Well done to all the pupils who are currently taking part in the MATHletes Challenge. The MATHletes challenge encourages students to compete in county and provincial finals, with the top scorers advancing to the national finals, which are scheduled to take place in early May. According to the current leaderboards, Rearcross National School is in second place in Munster and ninth overall in Ireland! Sár obair a pháistí, maith sibh!

Scratch

Pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th classes are learning to program using Scratch. It’s a visual programming language that makes it easy for young people to create their own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. Scratch helps young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively — essential skills for life in the 21st century!

Shape and Space: Polyhedrons

This morning pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th classes explored different aspects of polyhedrons. Pupils chose from a selection of materials and then shared and solved construction problems.

Australia: People and other lands

Today the pupils of Rearcross National School used Britannica School to find out lots of information about Australia. Their research topics included the Aborigines, identifying the ten most dangerous animals in Australia and exploring cities, mountains, coastal areas and deserts!

And They’re Off!

Pupils from 4th-6th classes began the MATHletes Challenge today. Students will now compete online from January to March through the Khan Academy website, accumulating mastery points in their personal learning dashboards. Khan Academy allows pupils to work at their own pace to truly understand and be confident in a maths skill before moving onto more advanced topics Go n-éirí libh a pháistí!
